Ekaterina Smirnova was born in 1981 in Novosibirsk, Russia. She started her art education in a Russian art school in Siberia in 1991. Shortly after moving to New York, USA in 2006 she became a member of the Art Students League of NY, where she has been developing her style ever since.
Ekaterina Smirnova’s paintings are best described with a single word: atmospheric. The artist has a unique approach to the traditional medium of watercolor, using multi-glazing and repeatedly spattering the paper with paint to create the desired effect.
